Heineken is the UK's leading cider and beer producer. With established brand names such as Heineken®, Strongbow, Bulmers, Foster's, Kronenbourg and Desperado's all represented underneath the Heineken business umbrella of brands.
Globally the Heineken family of brands achieved an annual turn over of 21.26 billion euros in 2013. Heineken UK employs over 2,000 staff across its 8 UK branches.
Heineken UK approached Teviot with a new and exciting challenge. As part of their 'global-sites' review Heineken.co.uk was to be re-designed to promote its business practises and portfolio of brands within the UK marketplace. Not only did they want new designs but a back-end CMS system that allowed Heineken staff the opportunity to create and upload their own content.
The UK website was the first of the global websites to undertake the new redesign so it was imperative it stood out as a shining example for the other global regions to follow.
We are proud to have worked with Heineken for over two years but this was the first project we have undertaken with them of this kind. Using our existing client relationships we were quick to get a brief formulated, a content and functionality scope drawn up and a delivery timeframe with key milestones agreed. All parties agreed that the project would take 4 months to deliver.
The following key features were set up during the planning, design and development phase:
Review and analysis of existing Heineken.co.uk website content. We created a new sitemap with a page-by-page analysis investigating whether content should be retained or newly created for maximum impact.
New website wireframes and web page template designs based around the new required global site requirements.
Full technical build of website templates accommodating a range of desktop and mobile devices, using fully responsive designs.
Implementation of a Content Management System (CMS) allowing easy maintenance of day-to-day content by Heineken and Teviot employees.
Heineken UK was the first of all global Heineken companies to redevelop their website so it was imperative it worked from both a content and functionality point of view. In order to ensure we achieved the four month deadline we met regularly and ensured that all of the key stakeholders were involved at all the critical milestones. By doing this we managed to deliver the project within the time and budget originally allocated.
For the creation of the CMS system we managed to create a unique piece of software combining features from existing CMS programmes but tailoring this to our clients everyday needs to ensure content was uploaded quickly and easily.
The project was an overriding success allowing us to showcase our full service culture. The client was exceptionally pleased with the outcome and off the back of a successful UK launch the other global regions have followed our lead in refreshing their site content.
